“… just watch me!”

When I moved to the Netherlands back in 2014, I struggled to find a delicious cake, one that wasn’t too sweet, too heavy, or dry… I wanted real flavour – not synthetic or chemical flavourings – and soft fluffy texture. I tried many different cakes, but I just couldn’t find it here.

So I decided I would do it myself and off I went to the local AH with my translated ingredient list to make my own cake. Then another for a colleague’s baby shower, for a birthday, and another for my sports team…all just for fun.

To my surprise, everyone loved my Canadian recipes and many went in for seconds.

One afternoon as I contemplated what if I could actually do this as my job, someone close to me said: “You can’t do it. You couldn’t make a business from this.”

“Well…” I thought, “You just watch me!” – and so the Canadian Cupcakery was born with a determination to prove them wrong and a love for delicious cake.

Well, that sports team I baked for, it led me to an incredible opportunity to work on projects for the Embassy of Canada to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which later led to NATO, Shell, The International Gender Champions at the International Criminal Court and I was even approved to represent Canada at the annual Embassy Festival in the Hague.

My determination continued as my style evolved and when I discovered wedding cakes, my creative heart came to life. The intricate and fine details like a touch of gold leaf, hand sculpted petals, flowers created using just a palette knife, and matching the perfect shade of blue to the groom’s suit, it was like a meditation for me. This is what I was meant to create – I felt it.

With over 20 years of experience and an eye for detail, it’s more than just a dessert. I create a moment so special that just the first bite delivers a taste worth of a happy dance. So that you sink into the moment of your cake cutting and the stress and cameras melt away.
